Canon’s EOS 1D Mark III – claimed to be the fastest digital camera on the market – is set to hit the stores, with a price tag of just over £3,000.

Aimed very much at professional sports and wildlife photographers, or indeed anyone else that needs some everyday speed, it’s a replacement for the EOS-1D Mark II N – designed from the ground up, rather than being an improvement. The 10.1 megapixel camera is quick enough to capture ten full size photos every second, which could be the difference between getting the perfect shot – or missing out. It can also take 110 images without pause.

Other features include dual “DIGIC III” image processors, fast enough to process over 100 MB of data per second, along with a tough, magnesium alloy body to protected against dust and moisture, the EOS Integrated Cleaning System to keep dust off the image sensor, a 3-inch TFT LCD and a Live View mode for composing shots.

No date has been announced as yet for retail, but the price is confirmed as £3049.99.
