Windows Live OneCare launches internationally

liveonecare.gifThough it had a lower profile than Vista, a major release of Windows Live OneCare launched last week in 17 countries including the UK. The software package provides a unified virus and spyware scanner, flexible file backup options, and support for Vista.

Anyone who took part in the beta programme will receive a special offer via email to get a 60% discount on their first annual subscription fee.

OneCare is compatible with both XP Service Pack 2 and Vista. When used with Vista, it is supposed to ‘complete the security picture’. Presumably this means that Vista’s beefed up security systems aren’t wholly adequate, though I’m not sure that I’d want to add another Microsoft product to address securing my PC.

The service is available for around £37.99 per year, from onecare.live.com
