Sony says Nintendo Wii console is an impulse buy

wiiremote.jpgSony America tried to insult the Nintendo Wii’s runaway success by calling it an ‘impluse buy’. Sony spokesperson Dave Karraker said that the PS3 was far more powerful and should be considered as being in a different category from the Wii.

“Wii could be considered an impulse buy more than anything else,” he said, claiming that demand for the Wii is fuelled by Nintendo shipping less stock. That claim is refuted by Nintendo who say that they are shipping at least as many consoles as Sony in the US.

I’m sure Nintendo aren’t too worried whether consumers are buying their consoles on impulse or not. I would have thought that’d be any company’s dream!

When it comes to wars of words, this hardly registers on the meter. In Europe, Wii definitely has the edge. The PS3 should be regarded in a ‘different category’? Of course it should: The ‘unavailable’ category.

  • “your role in this pre-launch Sony team involved stamping peoples hands as they walked into a pre-launch party”
    HAHAHA pretty funny fern!

i hate sony but saying the ps3 hardware is the ps2 at best is reaching.

    long live the atari!

  • Don’t forget that this thing just came out. The 360 had crap when it came out. Look at it now.

Why would I waste the money on buying 3 different items when I can have it all now in 1 piece?

“…I’ve seen the hardware and bottom line is its not worth the money. High End PS2 at best.”
WOW, dude, you must be sleepwalking. This leads me to believe that your role in this pre-launch Sony team involved stamping peoples hands as they walked into a pre-launch party.

  • “Seriously man, wake up. You’re not talking about neo-geo or dreamcast. You are talking about SONY and the PLAYSTATION name.

Do you seriously think an overpriced wii is going to bury sony? You’re dreaming!”

Well MAN, I’m wide awake and am part of a pre-launch team for Sony PS3, so yes I’m well aware of its brand history. But I’ve seen the games, I’ve seen the hardware and bottom line is its not worth the money. High End PS2 at best. Go buy a Wii and an XBOX and buy the dual format hd/bluray player next year when the price drops. Sony is so far off the mark nowdays. Biggest trick they ever missed was pissing away the walkman brand, but hey thats another story!

  • Whaaaa 3-times more? I had not realized.

You get what you pay for with a $600 PS3… a true nex gen machine that’s going to (not yet) a kick ass machine.

The Wii, is overpriced by $150. This is a $100 machine. What it really is is a GameCube with a fancy controller. A $100 Game cube with a $150 controller. Together it is not worth $250!

  • “…your days are sooooo numbered!!!”

  • I’d take Impulsive over repulsive any day of the week, feel the force SONY, your days are sooooo numbered!!!
