BT Vision and Universal offer on-demand music videos

The Universal Music Group has teamed up with BT to offer on-demand music video for the BT Vision service, as well as offering videos for download to any Windows-compatible media players via the BT Vision download store.

BT already has a deal with Universal for movie downloads, so it’s no surprise to see them offering Universal’s music too. As well as traditional music videos, BT will also offer “a selection of long-form music programming”, which probably means live shows, as part of the deal. If Universal means nothing to you, it is definitely a big player, with acts such as Scissor Sisters, Snow Patrol, Razorlight, The Fratellis, James Morrison, Take That, Keane, The Killers, Amy Winehouse, The Feeling, U2, Gwen Stefani & Nelly Furtado on the books.

Pricing for content on the BT Vision TV service will range from 29p for individual music videos to £2.99 for premium concerts. Pricing for downloads from the BT Download Store will be confirmed over the next few weeks. That might seem cheap, but let’s be honest – most of this stuff is on YouTube and there’s plenty of free (or cheap) software out there for downloading it to your PC or portable player.
