3GSM 2007: Garmin unveils GPS add-on for BlackBerry devices

Garmin has used this year’s 3GSM to demonstrate mobile GPS systems. And if you have a BlackBerry, you might want to take a close look at the 8800, which turns the businessman’s favourite device into a sat nav system.

The 8800 incorporates a GPS receiver, but doesn’t need the memory (just as well with a BlackBerry). Instead, all the data is stored on Garmin’s own servers, which also means you’re guaranteed the most up-to-date data. But you’ll need a data contract to access it.

For old BlackBerry models, Garmin is also showing off the GPS 10x (a portable GPS sensor) and the GPS 20SM mount. The GPS10x with Bluetooth uses Garmin Mobile 10, which can be used both in the car or on foot. The GPS 20SM mount uses Garmin Mobile 20 and is designed for those who just need sat nav in the car, as the receiver is built into the mount.
