More new notebooks from Sony. Following on from the G11-series, Sony has announced an upgrade to its AR-series of Vaio notebooks and a new range – the TX5-series.

The Vaio AR30-series is an upgrade to Sony’s previous Blu-ray notebook range, the AR-20. Pitched as a Full HD entertainment notebook, the flagship VGN-AR31S offers users the ability to edit their personal HD video content and then burn it onto a Dual Layer 50GB Blu-ray drive as well as Blu-ray playback. Other features for this model include a 17-inch double lamp X-black LCD widescreen display capable of 1080p Full HD, an integrated hybrid digital/analogue TV tuner complete with remote control, Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB memory and 240GB hard drive.

The new Vaio TX5-Series is an ultra-portable machine with carbon fibre construction for strength, but with less weight – just 1.25kg. The ultra-low voltage platform also offers up to 7 hours use between charges. A limited edition model VGN-TX5VN/L is now available featuring a 2GB RAM configuration. Other models come as standard with 1GB, and all with widescreen X-black LCD display, security features including fingerprint recognition and sensor-based hard disk drop protection, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 100GB hard drive.

Prices to be confirmed.
