PET1030.jpgPhilips also unveiled two new portable DVD players this morning at CES, the PET830 and PET1030 (pictured), which have 8.5-inch and 10.2-inch screens respectively.

Both come with a car charger and car mount, as well as built-in stereo speakers, and the ability to play back MP3/WMA CDs, CDs and CD-RWs as well as all manner of DVD formats (DVD+/-R, DVD+/-RW, DivX and MPEG4, since you ask). And they’re both widescreen devices, for maximum movie pleasure.

The PET830 has a tablet design, with side-slot disc loading – apparently a first for Philips – and a kick-stand that attaches to the back so you can watch it on a flat surface. It’s got a three-hour battery life, and will be out in the first quarter of 2007 for around $199.

Meanwhile, the PET1030 has a 180-degree swivel screen which rotates and folds back on the device, and has a generous five hours battery life, which is enough for even the most self-indulgent Hollywood epic. Well, most of them, anyway. It’s also due out by the end of March, for around $279.

We’re giving lots of US prices in these stories, as CES seems to be focused more at the North American market. Rest assured we’ll be on the case to get European release dates (if different) and prices once we hit the CES show floor tomorrow.
