With the launch date set for Friday March 23rd, we’re all jostling for a place in the queue to get hold of a PlayStation 3. But according to one analyst, it might be worth holding off for a while.

According to Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter, cited by GamesIndustry.biz, the £425 price tag for the 60GB model will drop significantly within 12 months. “The PS3 can command £425 from the hardcore [fans] and I think you’ll see price cuts a year from now, probably to £300,” he said.

As we mentioned previously, only the 60GB model will hit the UK at launch, with the 20GB model to follow if there is sufficient demand. Around one million consoles will be allocated for the launch; most are expected to have been sold by the end of April.
