Good news for anyone with an aching arm or shoulder, having dragged a hefty laptop through rush hour – Sony has introduced the Vaio G series, including what it claims is the world’s lightest 12.1-inch notebook.

Only in Japan right now, the new machine is just 898g, thanks to a carbon fibre construction – but increases to 1kg if you want a bigger battery and an optical drive. The full series has 6 models, all featuring an Intel ultra-low voltage Core Solo processor, 512MB of memory, 802.11a/b/g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, motion-sensor protected hard drive, and a 12.1-inch, 1,024 x 768 display.

The new models will hit the Japanese market in December. No news of a European launch.
