UK is number 2 for RFID usage

A new study shows that the UK is second, behind the US, for take-up of RFID technology.

RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) is fairly prolific in the UK thanks to London’s use of Oyster Cards (7.2 million users), as well as tagging used in healthcare, leisure, and the military.

At present, though, we have around 300 implementations of RFID, whereas the US has over 800. Behind the US, China actually spends the most, thanks in part to its national identification card scheme—something that will push our usage up as well if the UK goes down that route.
