explorist.jpgMagellan have been busy with their satellite navigation systems, and have recently released their eXplorist XL handheld GPS receiver.

It features a 3.5 inch, sunlight viewable, high contrast colour TFT LCD which they claim is the largest currently available in a handheld like this. There’s 30MB of internal memory plus expansion with SD cards, so plenty of room for maps.

It measures 6.4 x 2.9 x 1.3 inches, and is water-resistant. It is supposed to be accurate to within 3 metres, and has a built-iin base map of major roads, parks, airports and waterways, and is also able to store an unlimited number of waypoints, routes and track logs on SD card.

It has a backlit keypad and joystick providing one-touch access to its key features. It has a USB interface for connecting to a PC and accessing compatible Magellan MapSend mapping software.

The included Magellan Geocaching Manager software loads geocaching data directly from the Internet to the device to eliminate the need to print website information or manually enter GPS coordinates. Also included is the Magellan MapSend Software DVD, which allows users to activate complete countries from the Magellan website and install using the DVD.

Available now priced £399.
