Evesham has launched what it claims is “probably” the lightest notebook on the market with a built-in optical drive – the Light Book.

It measures 283 x 238 x 35mm and weighs just 1.2kg. Inside, there’s an Intel Core Solo low voltage processor, Intel GMA 950 video engine, 12.1-inch XGA display plus a built-in optical drive – not often seen on a laptop of this size. The remaining specification varies on personal choice, but a typical set-up offers 512MB DDR 533 RAM, 60GB drive, Wi-Fi, 4-in-1 car reader, built-in audio and speakers and a wide selection of ports, including 3x USB. There’s also security via Finger Print Identification.

A basic battery offers 5 hours power, with an optional extended battery doubling that. Available in the coming weeks, the specification listed retails for £999, including three-year warranty
