Sony has announced the CDX-GT410U in-car audio system – its first to offer direct ‘plug and play’ capability for USB portable audio devices, which obviously includes the Sony Walkman range.

Plugging in your USB-friendly device transfers all track information to the car’s control system, along with the player’s functionality – so if you want to adjust volume, skip a track or turn it off, it’s all done with the in-car system. It’s compatible with most commonly used digital music formats including MP3, ATRAC, WMA and AAC. As an audio system, it features Sony’s Drive-S Chassis with 4 x 50watts output and a subwoofer switch. There’s also a remote control and a clear 13 segment fluorescent display.

Available from November 2006, price to be confirmed.
