OneWebDay: How has the Internet changed your life?

Today is the first OneWebDay, an international celebration of the world wide web. Creator of the day, Susan Crawford, said “I am hoping that people will take a step back and recognise how much the web has changed their lives”.

In London, I’ve heard that the Lord Mayor of the City of London will make a speech at 4pm outside Mansion House, and of course how could celebrations be complete without Tim Berners-Lee taking part in proceedings?

Individuals are also being encouraged to take photos and tag them ‘onewebday’ on Flickr or Webshots to create a global collaborative photo project, or to write about the web on their blogs and tag it ‘onewebday’.

Scott Heiferman (co-founder of Meetup and Fotolog) says “The internet is under-hyped. It’ll only continue to re-shape lives across the globe. Surely it deserves a day. OneWebDay is a day for more people to think about how the internet can help solve problems for people around the world.”

So, that’s your cue, people. Whether you’ve been online for ten days or ten years, how has it changed your life? I’ll post something about how it’s changed my life in the comments a little later on.
