Adidas-Polar RS800 – the serious athlete's personal computer

While the Nike + iPod Sport Kit is fine for your casual jogger, the more serious athlete demands more information than distance and calories burned – the kind of information provided by the Adidas-Polar RS800 running computer.

It’s a far more serious piece of kit, with a price tag to match. It’s a three-piece device, including a special running top with embedded sensors, plus an embedded shoe sensor, which combine to send workout details to a wrist display, including heart rate, speed, elevation and "running efficiency". When you’ve finished your workout, you can download all of this information to your home computer to keep a check on your progress.

It should be in the shops next month, with prices starting at the equivalent of $490, increasing depending on your choice of top.
