Toshiba has launched a new range of external USB hard drives, with software that encrypts all stored data to deter unauthorised access.

Toshiba’s hard drive range will initially be available in three storage sizes – 160GB, 250GB and 320GB, with 400GB and 500GB drives to follow. They also feature a slim-line design that can sit either vertically or horizontally on your desk. The security features incorporated in the drives are courtesy of an intelligent software programme known as "Regen", which allows you to make a backup of desired files by just pressing the front button on the device. There’s also the option of password security and encryption to prevent unauthorised access from your backup.

In addition, the drives offer accurate restore of specific files/folders from backup, data synchronisation between two computers and a "wizard" interface to guide you through setup, schedule backup and restore processes. The drives are available now, priced at £62 ex VAT for 160GB, £74 ex VAT for 250GB and £93 for a 320GB device.
