Not everyone wants an iPod speaker system in the same shiny plastic as their player – you might want something that adds a bit of style to your room – like this retro-styled Specktone iPod docking system, which has just been released in the UK.

Looking like the big old radio (or should that be wireless) your granny might have had on the sideboard, the SpeckTone is built into a high gloss lacquered wood cabinet in either black, white or mint green (pictured). But all that is hiding technology from 2006, with 28 watts of sound from two 3-inch drivers behind the front grille and a 4-inch subwoofer on the bottom for both volume and clarity. And like all such systems, it charges recent iPod models (but not 3G) while it plays. 1 and 2G iPods and the shuffle can be connected via an AUX input.

Available now, the SpeckTone retails for around £120
