In the battle to knock Apple off its portable player pedestal, most manufacturers are currently going for the "everything but the kitchen sink" approach – sticking in as many features as possible into an ever-shrinking case – demonstrated admirably by the Oracom UB-890.

The UB-890, which features a full colour 2-inch TFT LCD screen, offers audio support for MP3, WMA, OGG and WAV formats, along with voice recording, video playback, an FM tuner, FM recorder and direct encoding. In addition, it aso offers USB Host (OTG) support for downloading photos/data from a digital camera or card reader, a stereo loudspeaker system built onto the back of the player (500mW per channel sound output), an eBook reader – even a couple of built in games. There’s also all manner of configuration features too, including variable playback speed control, mid-track resume, voice operated recording, pre-scheduled FM recording and alarm/sleep timer functionality.

It’s not a bad looking device either – housed in a slim glossy black casing, it features those ever more common touch sensitive controls that only appear when the player is turned on or the controls activated – ideal for those who go for the minimalist look.

Available now, you can pick up the UB-890 for around £140.
