August 8th Security Patch Causing Problems

A critical update released by Microsoft on the 8th of August ‘Patch Tuesday’ has been causing problems for some users. Update MS06-042 (918899) for Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1, on Windows 2000 (SP4) and XP (SP1) causes Internet Explorer to unexpectedly shut down when loading pages from some websites. Microsoft is busily working on a fix for the patch and this should be released on August 22nd. In the meantime users affected by the problem can download a hotfix from Microsoft and read all about it in KB Article 923762
