Pentax Optio S7 with Blur Reduction technology coming in August

Pentax will be expanding their Optio S series of cameras with the compact Optio S7 camera. S7 signifying its 7.0 megapixel CCD.

It features Blur Reduction technology which will be very useful on a lightweight compact, as well as Face Recognition technology – quite how good this is remains to be seen; it’s really a fancy auto-focus and auto-exposure mode. The auto-focus can also auto-track, to help with shooting moving subjects.

It has a high-res 2.5inch anti-glare LCD monitor so it should be easy to see what you’re photographing without using the viewfinder.

Though it seeks to appeal to all levels of photographer, this sounds like it will satisfy the gadget-loving photographer and holiday snapper the most, rather than more professional photographers who need greater control over their pictures. Still, that’s true for most compacts and this one sounds promising, with some fancy auto-features – at least in name.

The full specs will be available nearer the camera’s launch at the end of August. It will retail at £250.
