A recent report shows that last month’s sales of in-car satellite navigation systems were up almost 20% on last year, as the UK gears up for summer holidays. Some 70,000 units were sold, bringing the total over the past year to nearly one million.

There’s little doubt that this is the current must have in-car accessory – the market is currently worth over £250m – and we Brits are leading the way by a mile.

Colin Holloway, Marketing Director at Navman, a leading manufacturer of sat-nav devices including the iCN750 (pictured) commented on the trend:

"Satellite navigation systems have become the must-have gadget for any driver wanting to get from A to B as quickly and efficiently as possible, especially when driving abroad. Navman’s flagship product (the iCN750) has been a popular choice in the run up to the summer holidays. But it’s not only good price points that are attracting people to sat-navs. The technology keeps on getting better and better. Accuracy is improving, screens are getting bigger and brighter and new features like Navman’s NavPix – which allow you to navigate to pictures – are all pushing the boundaries of what sat nav’s have to offer."

So the navigation’s sorted. Now families will have to find something else to argue about on long journeys.
