Dell Laptops Catching Fire?

There have been a growing number of reports of exploding Dell laptops, not unconnected with a recent recall of some 22000 machines. The problem apparently centres on faulty lithium ion batteries, which has left scores of machines with burnt or melted casework. There’s even film of one bursting into flames at a conference in Osaka Japan a few weeks ago. The models affected include Latitude D140, D505, D510, D600, D610, D800 or D810, Inspiron 510M, 600M, 6000, 8600, 9200 and 9300. Dell’s engineering teams are working on the problem and have now set up a blog for those who believe they may have been affected.

  • explode or not, my latitude 610 seems very hot especially on the left side toward the center, even after a few minutes after start up . . . should I be concerned?
