Sony launches new Micro Vault storage range

I’d probably refer to this as a USB or flash drive – but if you’re Sony, it’s the new Micro Vault, an upmarket version of the pocket storage device.

The standard Sony Micro Vault is available in black and silver and features a retractable USB connector. It offers up to 4GB of storage, which in real terms is around 1,000 MP3 songs or high definition images and over nine hours of MPEG4 video footage. In addition, the Micro Vault features pre-installed Virtual Expander compression software, which enables the drive to hold up to three times the native volume of data. The software automatically compresses and decompresses the read and write information stored on the device and allows compressed files to be sent by email.

If you want a bit more, there’s also a gold-coloured Excellence model, which features enhanced transfer speeds and higher capacity storage space. The upgraded Excellence model offers read speeds of up to 29MB/s and write speeds of up to 23MB/s. As with the standard model, the Excellence range features Virtual Expander compression software and comes in sizes from 512MB to 4GB.

All the Micro Vault units will be launched later this month, though as yet, we’ve no price confirmed.
