Sony launches new digital photo printer models

Everyone must have a digital camera of some sort now – even if it’s just on your phone. But not everyone (me included) prints out the pictures. Sony is the latest company to launch new hardware to change our minds, introducing  2 new models – the DPP-FP55 and DPP-FP35 photo printers. Both printers use "dye-sublimation technology" to create lab quality prints, with each print sealed with SuperCoat 2 laminate coating so they last longer, with a resistance to spills, moisture and fingerprints.

The DPP-FP55 features a 2.0-inch colour TFT monitor with "three-step" functionality – insert the memory card, select images on the screen and push the print button. There’s direct SD and MS/MSDuo card slots, with connection to a PC possible via a USB cable and port. It’s fast too, with printing of high resolution images in around 63 seconds and there’s functionalitty to edit your images or add effects.

The DPP-FP35 is more of a budget model, which connects to the PC via USB, but also direct from the DSC or mobile phone when PictBridge-enabled.

The DPP-FP55 will be available from July 2006, with the DPP-FP35 to follow in August. No prices available as yet.
