Sony has announced the launch of its latest music file management application software, SonicStage CP. The software allows users to download music files onto a PC and transfer them to music players, primarily the Walkman family of players. The company also said it is launching the NW-A1200 Walkman, an 8GB player, which will come with the new software.

With SonicStage CP, you can manage their music files in varying formats – ATRAC, MP3, unsecured WMA and for the first time, Apple’s AAC format. However, any files with DRM protection still cannot be used with the software. The software also features Sony’s "Artist Link" feature. By clicking the "link" button on the Sonic Stage CP screen while playing music, the artist link window appears and randomly selects related songs for playback, which can then be edited manually if you wish.

The software is a free download from the end of May. You can download it here.

Little is being said about the NW-A1200 model which will be launched by mid June, so we can presume it’s just an 8GB model of the previous A1000 players, packaged with the new software. No price has been given as yet.
