Over at Propellerhead they’ve unearthed yet another hidden facility in Microsoft Word. This one is a built-in calculator, it’s fairly basic just add, subtract multiply and divide but it’s very easy to use and just the job if you need to do a quick sum. To make it work right-click on an empty toolbar and select Customize. Select All Commands in the Categories menu then find and highlight ToolsCalculate in the Command list. Drag and drop it onto a toolbar and it’s ready to use. Just type in your numbers and use the normal mathematical operators (plus +, minus – , divide / and multiply *, etc.) highlight the equation and click your ToolsCalculate button and the answer will appear in the left hand corner of the status bar at the bottom of the screen.
