Nintendo rolls out free Wi-Fi

Nintendo, in conjunction with BT Openzone, is rolling out of over 600 Wi-Fi Connection hotspots across the UK and Ireland, offering free access to the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service. But there is a catch – you have to go into a games store to get it – which is perhaps not the comfortable place to spend a Saturday afternoon.

Retail sites benefitting are primarily chain stores such as GAME, HMV and Toys R Us. To access the service at one of these places, take your console along with a Wi-Fi compatible game, then choose the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection option from the game’s main menu.

In addition to the free access, you can also download playable demos of current and upcoming Nintendo DS titles via Nintendo ‘Download Stations’. The roll out commences from today and all 607 sites will be live by summer 2006.
