Denon DN-S3500 Active Turntable CD/MP3 player for DJs

I do the odd bit of DJing in my spare time – strictly vinyl though. If I walked into certain clubs with some CDs or a storage device full of MP3s, I’d be escorted back out by a couple of burly bouncers. Not all clubs are like that and even some of the higher profile venues allow the use of ‘new’ formats by DJs, using turntables like this Denon DN-S3500.

Denon claims the DN-S3500 acts, reacts, feels and sounds like a real vinyl turntable even though it’s playing CD/MP3 tracks. It features Denon’s 12-pole Direct Drive brushless motor design for instant full rotation speed, with a powerful 2.5kg/cm of start-up torque within 0.5 secs delivering an authentic turntable reaction. And you can scratch with it – the active
turntable generates an electronic analog sound of the scratching action from your CD or MP3 track.

Also packed into the box are 7 on-board effects (Echo, Echo/Loop, Filter, Flanger, Brake, Dump, & Reverse), a 15-second on-board sampler with Sampler Copy feature, deep pitch resolution of .02/.05%, plus next track reserve with crossfade and the ability to cue up your next track while your current one is playing.

And obviously, the biggest bonus of all is carrying your music collection on a couple of discs, saving you the back-breaking labour of dragging a box of vinyl around a city centre. It isn’t going to appeal to all, but if you like the idea of DJing from sound files, you can pick up the DN-S3500 for around £700.

  • With all due respect, many many clubs use CD decks these days. I am not advocating these decks at all, just CD as a format. Christ I never want to lift a record bag again, and I don’t DJ that often.

I have been DJing for 10 years on vinyl and am looking to switch to CDs basically because no one else I am aware of in the psytrance scene has even heard of vinyl.

wake up and smell the future, dude!
