Apple has unveiled a new Mac mini with the Intel Core processor, which should deliver performance up to four times faster than its predecessor. Two minis are available – Apple’s new Core Solo 1.5GHz Mac mini with  512MB of 667MHz DDR 2 SDRAM and a 60GB hard disk and a 1.66GHz Core Duo Mac mini with 80GB of storage and a SuperDrive to burn CDs and DVDs.

Both models include built-in 10/100/1000 BASE-T Gigabit Ethernet for high-speed networking, built-in AirPort Extreme 802.11g WiFi for 54 Mbps wireless networking, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR (Enhanced Data Rate) and four USB 2.0 ports, a DVI interface and a VGA-out adapter, plus analogue and digital audio outputs to connect to a home stereo.

The new mini is also the cheapest way to pick up iLife ’06, which features the latest version of iPhoto, iMovie HD, iDVD, GarageBand and iWeb, the Mac’s web publishing tool. It also features an updated version of Front Row, along with Apple’s Bonjour networking technology, which allows sharing and streaming of media, including audio, video and photos, among all Macs on a local network. The machine is also bundled with the infrared Apple Remote.

The Mac mini will start shipping today. The 1.5 GHz Mac mini will retail for £449 (inc. VAT), while the 1.66 GHz Mac mini will be available for £599.

  • Differences between Dual and Solo cpu are not clearly. Solo core seems a good option for this new Apple’s machines. We have post a comparison in our Apple’s intel website : http://www.maZintel.com
