Apple uploads first full-length movie to iTunes

We did mention this could be coming last month – and now it seems to be here. Apple has begun full-length movie downloads on the iTunes website, albeit in a very small way,  by adding the Disney TV movie, High School Musical.

The film, with a running time of 1h 40m and weighing in at 487.1MB, will cost you around $10. The download, first spotted by MacRumors, appears to be a trial run for a Disney Channel video service.

Apple is widely expected to offer a full iTunes Movie service in the coming weeks – anticipated to be on April 1st, the company’s 30th birthday. However, reports indicate that licensing negotiations are holding up the release. Steve Jobs reportedly wanted to keep a pay-to-own download model rather than a monthly subscription based model. The High School Musical movie, with its traditional iTunes pay-to-own price of $9.99, indicates he may have got his way.
