Sony cool – Sanyo less so

In the week of the CES in Las Vegas, a new consumer survey by BrandBarometer in conjunction with Allyson Stewart-Allen makes good and grim reading for a number of the world’s most famous electronics brands. If you are Sony, then rejoice – the world loves you! If you are Sanyo, some investment in PR is perhaps called for.

Brands surveyed included Apple, Canon, Casio, Dell, Hitachi, Hewlett-Packard, Microsoft, Nokia, Panasonic, Philips, Pioneer, Sanyo, Sharp, Sony and Toshiba. Consumers were asked about their perceptions and experiences of the brands, levels of trust and overall quality. Sony was seen as "luxurious", Nokia "innovative" and Apple "individualistic". Sony and Nokia were also seen as the two most reliable brands.

At the other end of the spectrum, Sanyo was seen as "stagnant" and "dull".

What does it all mean? Not a lot really. If you really want to know about the best products on the market, forget the pre-conceptions and check out the reviews on Tech Digest.
