HP is offering customers of its Snapfish online photo service a chance to do exactly the same with videos. It is the first major company to offer the service, which uses Snapfish-developed technology to recognise and convert most digital video formats to a common one playable through almost any browser.

The new service, which accepts video from digital cameras and mobile phones, requires no software or plug-ins. Users simply email the videos to [email protected] to view and share. A free one-month trial of the new home movie service is available, reverting to £1.99 per month or £15.99 per year for unlimited storage and viewing of videos, that can be up to 10 minutes in length.
