Telewest to launch HDTV in December

Telewest, one of our two favourite cable companies, made its financial announcements today reporting a 6 percent quarterly rise in operating profit. The company, which will be merged with NTL in the new year, also dropped a hint  or two about where it is likely to go next year.

The big news though it that it will also offer HDTV starting from next month. Fuller plans will be unveiled in the next few days. All we know so  far is that Telewest is aiming to take on the Sky+ with a HD-compatible 160Gb set-top box, costing subscribers an additional £10 to £15 per month. The company will launch HD at the same time and had already secured suitable content from the BBC and other companies.
