Samsung plans HD DVD/Blu-ray combi

When it comes it the old Blu-ray versus HD DVD (that’s the two formats competing to replace DVD as the disc standard for pre-recorded and recorded HD), Samsung is in a pretty unique position. It has always allied itself to the Blu-ray group, which is kind of lead by Sony, while at the same time it works closely with Toshiba so hasn’t ruled out making HD DVD players. At IFA this fence sitting proved its worth as the company announced its intention to produce a dual Blu-ray/HD DVD player if there’s no unified format. While it will probably be rather pricey, it could certainly have plenty of appeal. After all given the choice between a one format player and dual one I know which I’d choose. More here
