Premiere announces HD World Cup

Lucky Germans. Premiere, Germany’s equivalent of Sky TV with 3.5 million subscribers, has teamed up with Philips to screen all 64 games of the 2006 World Cup in HD (High Definition) under the brand, Premiere Philips HD Sport. Later this year Premiere will also start screening movies in high definition.

Philips has announced that by the end of this year 90 per cent of its flat screen TVs will be HD Ready. "HDTV is a quantum leap forward in performance," said Senior Vice President and CEO, Philips Consumer Electronics Rudy Provoost at IFA Berlin.  "Fans around the world will be able to see individual blades of grass and drops of water."
