PSP video not enticing fans

One of the PSP’s big draws is its ability to play movies on the go. Sony
must be a little worried then, with the recent findings by Parker
Associates upcoming report on portable media players that indicates
video has yet to catch on with PSP buyers. Only 6% of people intending
on buying a PSP rate it as a top extra feature. As far as extra
features went, other attractions such as a hard drive(17%), wireless
connectivity(19%) and TV connectivity (20%) scored much higher.

Unsurprisingly, the main draws were graphics (34%), gaming
capabilities (29%), and an extensive game catalogue (29%). Bad news for
Sony and even worse for the handful of studios that have released UMD
movies for the PSP.

  • Not that bad news – 2 of the titles released on UMD so far have already sold over 100,000 copies in less than a month…
