DS hits 1 million European sales

Another month, another success story for Nintendo. Pretty surprising considering that Xbox and PlayStation have all but dismissed Nintendo as competition. I’m sure there are microsoft and Sony execs cackling maniacally at the Revolution specs thinking they’ve got them whooped already. Similar could have been said of the DS a year ago; woeful in comparison to the PSP in terms of specs and design, yet now it seems to have been quite a hit in Europe as Nintendo releases news of its 1 millionth sale. Certainly delays in the PSP’s release have been a strong catalyst to these good sales, but I’m definitely not disrespecting the DS here; so, I don’t think it compares aesthetically to the shiny slinky PSP, but at the end of the day it’s a gaming device not a personal accessory. These sales give me faith that there might be 1 million players in Europe who value gameplay above eye-candy and designer cases. Plus there is still a healthy line up of decent games in the pipeline for DS owners meaning that Sony still has plenty to compete against.
