Apple's new range of iMac G5s and eMacs

Apple has begun rolling out a new range of G5 iMacs. The three devices consist of one 1.8GHz model with a 17″ LCD display, a 2.0GHz machine also with a 17″ screen and a top spec model with a 2.0GHz processor and a 20″ screen.

Each comes equipped with 512MB DDR400 RAM, which is upgradeable to 2GB, with graphics  handled by a Radeon 9600 GPU with 128MB of DDR Video Memory. The lower end machines are equipped with a 160GB 7200rpm SATA hard disc drive, while the larger model has a massive 250GB drive.

Connectivity is handled by three USB 2.0 ports, two 400Mbps FireWire, plus Bluetooth 2.0 and AirPort Extreme (that’s Wi-Fi to you and me) for wireless communication. On top of that, the two top machines  boast 8x Dual-layer 8x DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-R/RW, CD-RW drives, but the low end model has just DVD-ROM and CD/RW.

The three iMac models can be ordered from Apple now for £899, £999 and £1,099.01 respectively.

Upgrades to the eMac have upped the processors to 1.42GHz, the Combo model has 256MB DDR333 SDRAM and an 80GB Ultra ATA hard disc plus a CD-RW / DVD-ROM drive. The SuperDrive has a CD-RW and DVD-R capability coupled with 512MB DDR333 SDRAM and an 160GB Ultra ATA drive. The Combo eMac costs £549 and the SuperDrive is £679 and are also available now through Apple.
