Sony Ericsson Walkman phone
So here it is: Sony Ericsson’s first Walkman mobile phone. The first of many, we’re told, offering music playback courtesy of the 512MB Sony Memory Stick Duo. The W800 is branded Walkman, with the logo decorating the orange edges of the handset. Fifteen hours’ playback is what you’ll get off the battery – and thirty if you play your music with the phone switched off. There’s also a 2-megapixel camera with a light designed in the same style of all Sony Ericsson handsets (ie so that it looks like a camera from the back and a phone at the front. Although there are already handsets out there that playback music, Sony E has tried to make things a bit easier with the Disk2Phone software for tranferring files (that said, give me boring old drag and drop file transfer any day) as well as high quality stero headphones. Being able to use the music player with the handset switched off is an added bonus, and the Direct Music button lets you control the player independently of the phone. It’ll be out in the third quarter of this year. The SE people weren’t giving any pricing details, but said that it will be pitched cheaper than the S700.
