Hackers chomp on Apple

Ever felt that trying to download music legally is a bit too restrictive? A collective of Norwegian and US programmers think so and have found a way to avoid the Digital Rights Management system currently used on Apple’s iTunes service.  The DRM restriction includes limiting the number of computers your purchased tunes can be copied to and even which playback device can be used.

Furthermore Apple has the right to change the rules at anytime. Or rather ‘had’. Free software PyMusique disables all these inhibitors while otherwise offering the same service as iTunes and is now running on Windows format. Lead programmer Johansen says “All the DRM does is frustrate legitimate consumers; it doesn’t stop file sharing”; Apple has so far declined to comment, but our bet is its lawyers are mulling it all over.
