LCDs to take half of TV market by 2007

Sharp, which is expected tomorrow to unveil the world’s largest LCD TV, is predicting that sales of LCD sets in Europe will rocket over the next three years.

The company, which has a huge range of LCD TVs on its books believes that as many as half of the sets sold will be LCD by 2007.

Sharp has pinpointed 2006 as a key year for the LCD TV. It believes that by then LCDs will cost just one and half times the price of traditional CRT TV sets. The company also hopes that the LCD makret will be boosted by the arrival of high defintion TV in Europe via Sky and the World Cup in Germany both of which are slated for summer of that year.
