Is this the world's smallest laptop?

Fujitsu Siemens is claiming its LIFEBOOK P7010 (£1562) is the “world’s smallest and lightest notebook”. Ignoring the existence of the Sony X505 (900g), the Toshiba Portege R100 (1.1kg) and various other lighter ultraportables, and the P7010, at 1.3kg, could well be in the top five.

But lets not be churlish. The 10.6-inch widescreen P7010 is the “smallest and lightest”, which could well be true. At 261 x 199mm it is impressively compact, so we’ll have to give it the benefit of the doubt for the time being. (There’s no mention of the thickness, though.)

Anyway, enough of this suspicious attitude. The P7010 does have some interesting features. The modular bay system has been designed so users can configure the machine to suit their needs: home users can fit the DVD burner (DVD+/-RW), while travellers can stick in an extra battery and data-hungry users can opt for the multi-drive.

LIFEBOOKS are Fujitsu Siemens’ business machines, and the P7010 is being pushed as a laptop for the mobile businesswoman.

The P7010 is out in September and will cost from £1562. Specs include: up to 1GB of DDR SDRAM, 60 or 80GB hard drive, Intel Pentium M ULV 718 (1.1GHz)
