Earlier this week Intel unveiled its plans for video over the net (see story below). Now Danish firm KiSS has announced it is planning to introduce a new DVD player that can play high def DivX video files downloaded from the net.

The DivX certified DVD player will enable DivX users to archive high-definition broadcast content on their PCs and play back high-resolution DivX video on HDTVs. The KiSS DP-1100 DVD player will support playback of all versions of DivX video, including secure, video on demand content from DivX Networks’ content partners.

Often called the MP3 of video, DivX offers DVD quality at 10 times greater compression than MPEG2, enabling full length films to easily fit on a CD or be delivered over broadband connections. The Kiss DivX DVD player will be availabe in the UK from July.
