Magellan has announced a dedicated GPS system for in-car use. Called the RoadMate 700 it’s an easy to install portable unit with a 10Gb hard drive and 3inch colour touch-screen display.

Unlike cheaper PDA-based devices, the RoadMate 700 – which is aimed at mobile professionals and road warriors – comes with all of the European maps pre-loaded. It also features over 750,000 points of interest.

Address information can be beamed via Infra-Red from a Palm, Pocket PC or Symbian device and a compact flash card memory card slot is provided for data storage. Later this year will see the introduction of an RDS/TMC receiver which will enable users to get real-time re-routing to avoid traffic jams, accidents, roadworks etc.

Officially launched at CeBit, the RoadMate 700 costs approximately £999. For more information go to Magellan’s website.
