Tosh's private LCD screens

Don’t you just hate it when you are working on a laptop on a plane and the person next to you keeps taking a sneaky peek at what you are doing? Well if Toshiba gets its way this will be a problem you won’t have to face for much longer. Its boffins have developed a new technology that enables the user to alter the viewing angle of LCD displays.

The technical part is that it orders the pixels in a display in different directions so that when someone vies the display from a different angle they see a different patterns not the clear image enjoyed by the user.

Tosh is in the process of commercialising the technology and hopes that products using it will go on sale in late 2004.
