The British TV watchdog has banned Apple’s PowerMac G5 TV commercial because its ‘world’s fastest personal computer’ claim could not be fully supported.

Though the ad was initially given the green light, the Independent Television Commission (ITC) decided to take action after receiving eight complaints from viewers, reports CNET News.com. The agency said: “There was insufficient evidence to support the claim ‘world’s fastest, most powerful personal computer.”

As a result of the decision the UK website now has a slightly different page than it does in the US where the ad is still aired on TV.

Apple claims its tests, performed by independent firm Veritest but commissioned by Apple, show the G5 outperforms 3GHz Pentium4 based machines from Dell.
