A free software update is to allow Apple iPod owners in the UK to record voices and store digital images in conjunction with third-party equipment.

With the new voice recording features, iPod owners can use Belkin’s compact Voice Recorder to record over 600 hours of lectures, interviews or notes on a 40Gb model. Once the iPod is connected to the Mac or Windows PC, voice notes are automatically synched with the computer. Featuring an omni-directional mîcrophone and 16mm speaker, the Belkin voice recorder plugs in through the headphone connector.

iPod’s new photo storage allows those with a Belkin Media Reader to import, store and backup over 20,000 digital photos from a 3 megapixel camera onto a 40Gb iPod for portability. Once the iPod is connected to a Mac or Windows PC, the digital photos can be transferred to a user’s computer and photo editing software.

The new iPod software Version 2.1 is available as a free download from http://www.apple.com/uk/ipod. The new Belkin iPod accessories are also available for order today from the Apple Store (http://www.apple.com/ukstore). The price is £39 (inc VAT) for the Belkin Voice Recorder and £89 (inc VAT) for the Belkin Media Reader.
