new_apple_imac_24_inch.jpgApple has launched its new range of iMacs, dropping the 17 inch model and focusing on the 20 and 24 inch screen sizes.

The white surround of the last Core 2 Duo iMac has been replaced with ‘professional’ aluminium and glass enclosures. It now boasts up to a 2.8GHz Core 2 Duo chip, 500GB hard drive, 8x speed double-layer SuperDrive, ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO with 256MB memory, and iSight camera.

They feature a new glossy widescreen, which won’t please everyone but is what Apple believe a lot of people want for viewing photos, movies, and the like. Should prove popular for this consumer-targeted machine.

The new iMac will take up to 4GB of RAM and 1TB of internal storage, and comes with a new fully-functioned thin keyboard, iLife ’08, and OS X 10.4.

Hopefully aiming to appease environmentalists, Apple claim that the materials used are highly recyclable, and that the iMac meets stringent Energy Star 4.0 requirements.

Available from the Apple Store right now, prices ranging from £799 to £1,459, or more for a custom build.
