lego-bluetooth-dongle.jpg
I'm not quite so much of a LEGO freak/geek as most but there is something cute about this 2x2 LEGO brick Bluetooth 2.0 adapter complete with friendly LED.

You'll be pleased to hear that this isn't just a concept or prototype either and this little dongle is available in limited numbers for a rather pricey $49.99 and comes in blue, red and green.

If you want to see it in action, be my guest and check out the least interesting YouTube clip ever uploaded.

firebox birthday.jpgWell, happy birthday to you, Firebox. In a strange twist of 10th anniversary tradition, the games, toys and gadgets online store will be giving us, the consumer, the gifts by offering a different product at half price every day throughout this month.

The deal is that you get 24 hours before the item changes - as indicated by a very large and overly dramatic digital countdown clock - unless of course they run out of stock before the time is up. Today's goody is the completely useless Cube World toy of boredom but fingers crossed there'll be something better tomorrow.

munny-speakers.jpg
I can't believe I haven't ever seen this before, or even thought of doing it to one of my many Munny, Qee, or Bearbrick vinyl toys. A chap over at Instructables has put up his instructions on how to melt the face off a Munny, and insert a speaker in its place.

He used a pair of 3" Tang Band bamboo fiber cones, however depending on how big your chosen toy is (I'm eyeing off one of my 9" Qees currently), you could really choose any size of cone for the job.

Jumpjet.JPG
There's no deep purpose to the RC Jump Jet. It's a toy, but it's a very fun one and ludicrously well designed to boot.

Four gyroscopes, on top of the craft, power its flight giving it perfect 3D control that comes off rather like a Harrier Jump Jet only much, much better. To be fair to the RAF, they do have a significantly larger and more tooled up aircraft to deal.

dalek-voice-changer.jpgI do a rubbish Dalek impression. Everyone does. We all think it's quite convincing when we stick our heads into a fan and shout, "Ex-ter-min-ate!". Then you watch an episode of Dr Who and realise it isn't.

But don't worry japesters and Whovians out there, hours of fun have just arrived and for a paltry £40 too. You might look like a bit of penis jumping round with this Dalek helmet on your bonce but you are going to sound awesome.

Some would look at a novelty voice changer as a waste of money, whereas you and I both know that comedy genius like this is priceless

bubble-wrap-keyring(2).jpgThis is the third time I've written about Bandai's Mugen Puchi Puchi keyring, or 'bubble wrap' keyring, since September - you could say I'm obsessed with this stuff.

Replicating the experience of popping bubble wrap bubbles, the £7.95 keyring has landed over at I Want One Of Those, on pre-order. And yep, the English version still contains that brilliant 'easter egg' feature, with every hundredth pop being not unlike the other 99 popping-noises, embarrassing you with a fart, bark or 'woman moaning in ecstasy' amongst others.

robotic-arm.jpg
This, my friends, is what you've been waiting for. No, not Rock Band launching in the UK, this robotic arm!

Enabling you to lift, grip, grasp and twist your assorted paraphernalia (chocolates? desk knick-knacks? hamsters?), you have to initially build it yourself, but once it's complete you can lift up to 100g of goodies, and if nighttime-lifting is your forte, then the LED light shall assist you. It's available on pre-order now for £30, and is expected to hit virtual shelves on the 21st of April.

I'm not ashamed to admit I played with My Little Pony toys as a kiddywink, but I also played with LEGO and Scalextric if that redeems me. As you can imagine, this Halo-themed pony has pleased me greatly.

Your daughter/niece/stolen Madeleine McCann might not appreciate being presented with a Master Chief lookalike, but the Custom Pony competition judges over in Kentucky, USA sure did, awarding the designer second place. Created using Apoxie sculpting clay, it's just been sold on eBay for $151.

glow-swing 2 250 pix.jpgSimple idea but very pleasing. Swedish designer Alexander Lervik has made this swing out of plastic and threaded it with fiber optics that glow in the dark.

You think it looks good now, wait till it's dark and watch the pretty patterns against the night sky. Something beautiful to hang in the garden and good way for parents to keep an eye on the kids if they're playing outside at dusk. Alternatively a great toy for when you're off your head.

I don't think the child comes free with it but he does make the glow swing look cute, even if he has been squeezed into his least favourite jumper.

star wars collection 300 pix.jpgGenerally new school Star Wars and all merchandising thereabouts makes me want to kill people - Lucas ideally but anyone will do - but there's just something you've got to doff Vader helmet to when a man creates such a tidy, well thought out catalogue of action figures complete with pixel art thumbnails.

Josh Budich's beautifully presented and fantastically user friendly web page is a real treat and he even gives you an explanation of his madness. Do take a look. It's enough to bring a tear of nostalgia to the most hard-hearted of Sith Lords.

pleo-dino-sit.jpgAs soon as I heard the Pleo dinosaur had an SD card and USB slots in its belly, the potential for after-purchase upgrades immediately sprung to mind.

The latest download, LifeOS 1.1 includes many prime examples of the possible innovations that could be brought to life through these slots, with your little green dino being able to sit for the very first time, as well as change emotions dependent on how much love he receives. In addition, he can serenade you by singing melodies, and may even get sick and cough or sneeze. They're still working on making him poop, apparently...

phantom_keystroker.jpgHere's a particularly sneaky gadget, just in time for April Fool's Day. Disguised as a random circuit board (admittedly not the most discreet choice), plug the Phantom Keystroker into your victim's USB port and it'll either intermittently blurt out random text or take over the mouse, depending on what you set it to.

nixiewatch_front.jpgThis has to be the ultimate retro display watch. A homage to Nixie tubes (it even uses vintage tubes from 1968 to emit that satisfying neon orange glow), the unique timepieces were produced in a limited run of 25, which, even at $495, all sold out. OK, you might not be able to actually wear it, but it is undeniably impressive.

cardardcade12.jpgKeeping in tune with today's DIY theme, new from SUCK UK (home of the drumstick pencil and the wooden postcard) is the flatpack Mini Arcade. This incredibly useful piece of folded cardboard arranges into a mini co-op cabinet, with a space where the screen would be, upon which you can perch your PSP.

The cabinets come in two designs, 'Dirt Track Rally' and 'Cosmic Intruders' and feature relevant authentic detailing like graffiti, sweet wrappers, and a picture of a dog lying in toilet paper. Apparently commanding a monetary value of £7.50 (or £7.95 from Firebox), the Mini Arcade is available now.

Time to chuck out your D-SLR, here's a blast from the past. File alongside homemade kaleidoscopes and tin-can/string communications systems. Corbis is offering pinhole cameras available to download for free from their website to be built yourself, in classic Blue Peter style.

Designed by New York agency, Fwis, the flat-pack cameras are durable and will add a little bit of character to your poorly framed, out of focus shots - perfect for festival season.

Now these are flippin' scary, and rather expensive too, at ¥14,979 (£74) for the above boxset, which contains seven characters from Lost.

I can see Jack, Sawyer looks dead-realistic, as do Sayid, a trim-looking Hurley, very bald Locke, and 'ya'll everybody'-singing Charlie. But please don't tell me that's Kate, squeezed in between her two men, Jack and Sawyer? I knew she had butch arms, but jeepers...

We've been wanting a pair of mechanical trousers ever since we saw the Wallace and Gromit film, The Wrong Trousers. Now, these r/c lederhosen from IWOOT may not be able to transport evil penguins, but really, why'd you want to meet an evil penguin anyway?

They hop, yodel, and even the controller is German-related, in the shape of a frankfurter. All they require is two AAA batteries, and £17.99 of your cash.

Unless you happen to be a lower league celebrity, chances are that you'll not be invited to race a car round a track for the BBC's Top Gear programme. But you will soon be able to do it in your living room with the Scalextric Powerlaps set.

Yes, the BBC has done a deal with Scalextric, which means you can now tackle The Stig on his own patch, although you'll still need a balding mullet and ill-fitting jeans for the full-on Clarkson look. The set includes a Ford GT and Porsche 911 GT3R, a replica of the BBC Top Gear track (including the Hammerhead and Gambon corners) and two special edition Stig hand throttles.

It's available from March - price to be confirmed.

Shiny Video Review: Lego Indiana Jones playset

Comments (0)

As you and every Google user should know by now, Monday marked Lego's 50th birthday! To celebrate, I got busy in the office playing with one of their latest playsets, the Indiana Jones Race For The Stolen Treasure, which is available now for £24.99. I managed to rope Gary in for this video, who was quite ashamed of me for taking over an hour to build a simple playset. *cringe*
