Shiny Video Review: Nikon COOLPIX L100

I’ve never used an AA battery powered camera and I’m not quite sure if it’s supposed to be a plus point or not. Either way, that’s how the £239.99 Nikon Coolpix L100 works. It’s got plenty of good features from more powerful cameras without so much of the blink detection-type gimmicks but the question is, how does it actually stand up to use…

On the one hand, it’s quite fun to play with and I did get some good looking shots out of it in quite low dark conditions with the black and whites coming out particularly well. The trouble is that it’s things like the AF missing that might make you wonder why you didn’t go for an older Panasonic Lumix like the TZ5 for just £180.

In its favour, the L100 does have a lovely 3-inch screen with a nice, accurate display of the shots you’ve taken and you’d certainly be happier enough if someone bought one for you. However, if it’s your own cash and you’ve got the time, I’d recommend researching something else.

SHINY VIDEO REVIEW: Logitech G13 Gameboard

Gaming peripherals usually fall into one of two categories – useless or ridiculous. Sometimes both, but there isn’t often something that’s both sensible and useful. That’s why I was mildly startled by the G13, which does what it does very well, and doesn’t look like it was designed by a moron on acid.

Unfortunately, you pay through the nose for that kind of quality. £75’s worth of nose, to be prescise. Competing products, despite not being quite as good, are less than half that price. Perhaps in a few months it’ll cheapen down a bit. I’ll be waiting patiently until then before I make a purchase.

Shiny Video Review: Advent 4213 Netbook

Zara got her hands on the Advent 4213 netbook the other day, and she liked it a lot. For me though, it seems to be trying to be a full-size laptop, rather than a diminutive netbook. It’s got a 10.2″ screen, a massive hard drive, 1GB of RAM, and it runs Windows XP – three things which I avoided when buying my Aspire One netbook a couple of months ago.

Still, if you’re not the sort of person who wants the full-on Linux-and-SSD netbook experience, then perhaps it’s for you. Check out the video above to see.

SHINY VIDEO REVIEW: BlackBerry Flip 8220

Here’s Susi’s take on the BlackBerry Flip. On the one hand, it has Wi-Fi and 3.5mm headphone jack. On the other, however, it has just a 2 megapixel camera. Oh, and it’s a flip phone. Which was cool sometime around 1998. For more details, check out Susi’s video above.
